A Royal Watch Party in Kensington, MD
The Dish & Dram celebrates the Union of England and America
Fifteen cities in the US and one palace in the UK share the name “Kensington.”
Next to that iconic UK address, the best place to celebrate the upcoming
royal nuptials on Saturday, May 19th is The Dish & Dram in Kensington, MD.
The restaurant literally rolls out the red carpet to celebrate the revolutionary union between the US and UK with a celebration fit for a king (queen, prince or princess) all day long on Saturday, May 19th beginning at 7 am. Not only will the televisions be trained on the Royal Wedding, but along with standard menu items, The Dish & Dram will start the day with a brunch including classic Bangers & Mash. This traditional British breakfast unites sausages and mashed potatoes ($18) for a hearty dish that’s a classic on tables throughout the UK, and scones, because what British day would be complete without scones ($3)? The celebration will continue all day long with pints of Lowest Lord ESB ($6.50). What could be higher than The Ultimate ‘High’ Tea—a steaming 20 oz. pot of Gin tea, enough for two—the restaurant’s signature Kensington Grey tea with Elderflower (an ingredient in the royal wedding cake) and orange bitters with dry Beefeater Gin ($25). Also on the menu is a pairing of a bottle of British Bubbly Fit for a Duchess, Court Garden Sparkling Rose, with two all American hot dogs topped with champagne mustard and crispy onions ($85).
For the little royals, there will be a ‘Prince and Princess Parade’ following the wedding at 9 am. Younger restaurant guests are invited to dress as royalty. Best costume will receive a gift certificate for a free kids’ meal. For the more adult Ladies and Gentlemen in Waiting, Fascinators are recommended. Whether worn with PJs (let’s face it, it’s early) or with a full-blown cape and scepter ensemble (for the sake of propriety, keep those crown jewels under wraps), The Dish & Dram staff will be scoping the best all day. The winner will receive a $25 restaurant gift certificate.
